Search for element 113 concluded at last - The most unambiguous data to date on the elusive 113th atomic element has been obtained by researchers at the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-based Science. A chain of six consecutive alpha decays, produced in experiments at the Radioisotope Beam Factory, conclusively identifies the element through connections to well-known daughter nuclides. A uniform junction for uniform nanotubes - In a bid to make structurally uniform carbon nanotubes for applications in optoelectronics, for example, and following on from work done to make uniform carbon nanoring sidewalls, scientists in Japan have now made a uniform junction unit for branched carbon nanotubes.(10.1039/c2sc21322b)
