Physics on a plane: Helium crystals grown in zero gravity

Physics on a plane: Helium crystals grown in zero gravity - Physicists from Japan have taken to the skies to grow crystals in zero gravity. Helium crystals were grown using high pressures, extremely low temperatures (0.6K/-272°C) and by splashing them with a superfluid -- a state of quantum matter which behaves like a fluid but has zero viscosity, meaning it has complete resistance to stress. Superfluids can also flow through extremely tiny gaps without any friction.(10.1088/1367-2630/14/12/123023)

Targeting drugs with hydrogels

Targeting drugs with hydrogels - Researchers in Japan have developed a technique which allows them to control and target drug delivery to specific sites of the body at specific times, thus reducing side effects and improving treatment dramatically.(10.1088/1468-6996/13/6/064202)

MOF based motorboat | Chemistry World

MOF based motorboat | Chemistry World - Researchers from the US and Japan have devised a new type of molecular motor capable of propelling itself across a liquid surface. The move marks another step along the road towards mimicking motile life forms found in nature, such as bacteria, in the quest for autonomous microscopic machines.(10.1038/nmat3461)
