Steps towards filming atoms dancing

Steps towards filming atoms dancing - Free-electron lasers offer the opportunity to film dances of atoms in molecules and in chemical reactions. An international team of scientists, which includes the participation of researchers from the DIPC and UPV/EHU, has now developed a measurement technique that provides the necessary complete temporal characterization of the laser pulses. The results has been published in the current issue of the scientific journal Nature Photonics.(10.1038/nphoton.2012.276)

Quantum ‘kisses ‘change the color of space

Quantum 'kisses 'change the color of space - Researchers from the DIPC and the CFM in Donostia-San Sebastián have observed for the first time with optical methods the quantum regime in the interaction between nano-sized spheres of gold thanks to the change of color of the gap or space between these particles when these are at distances of less than one nanometer. This work, published in Nature journal, enables literally "seeing" a quantum kiss between nanoparticles.(10.1038/nature11653)
