An array of electrochemical sensors embedded in microneedles could allow physicians and other healthcare practitioners to continuously monitor several chemical changes in patients over time, according to researchers in the US. Although chemical sensing is an essential part of modern healthcare, acquiring regular samples of body fluids remains a labor intensive and inconvenient process, and simple, real-time monitoring is somewhat lacking.
