A new paradigm for an “unknown” childhood disease. Some strains of rotavirus find their way into the cells of the gastrointestinal tract by recognizing antigens associated with the type A blood group. This discovery based on X-ray crystallography could represent an entirely new paradigm in our understanding of how this gut pathogen infects people.
